The festive season can be stressful

noeyecontactSome of you, I am sure, will be breathing a sigh of relief that the festive season is over, especially if your relationship is going through a bad patch or you are in the midst of wondering if you should really be together.  The stress is over.

January has a reputation for being the month when more marriages break up than in any other month.   Often couples hang on until after the festive break, either for the sake of a partner they didn’t want to hurt at this time, or for the sake of the children.

If this is you then you are probably now trying to decide what to do next.  The new year beckons and you know you don’t want to be in the same position this time next year.

Before taking that irrevocable decision to break up your life together, a time of discovery could be the best thing you have ever done.

You see in times of stress or emotional pain our minds will be seeking to protect us from the pain.  This can trigger the ‘fight or flight’ response.

Giving yourself the chance to really find out the truth of where your relationship really is will give you the choices you deserve to make the right decision for you both, and, if you have children, for them as well.

You may be amazed at what you find out.

You could discover

  • that you’ve never truly understood your partner’s needs and how to meet them
  • that you’ve never learnt how to communicate with each other in a way that gives you clarity
  • that the differences between men and women are important and are a great strength in a relationship
  • that understanding and giving to each other is fun and exciting and rewarding
  • that actually you do still love each other but you have been blocking those feelings through misunderstandings

Wouldn’t it be a shame to split up without knowing the truth?
